BMW to Preview New 6-Series Coupe with Concept at Paris

Officially called the "BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé", what you are looking at here is a thinly masked concept of the next 6-Series Coupe and it will make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show on September 30.

Those who expected the new BMW 6-Series to look like a two-door version of the misleadingly named Concept Gran Coupe sports sedan showed on the sidelines of the Beijing Show back in April, may pat themselves in the back.

In a nutshell, out goes the controversial styling of the Bangle-era 6-Series and in comes Adrian van Hooydonk's (the new BMW design Chief) sleeker and more elegant but also far less adventurous design lines.

Things get a bit more interesting inside where front passengers are greeted by a driver orientated cockpit with an asymmetric design and a center console tilted towards the pilot.

While BMW is holding back on the technical details, the basic architecture of the 2+2 coupe is shared with the latest 5-Series so expect rear-wheel drive along with a choice of straight-six gasoline and diesel units plus a twin-turbo V8 petrol linked to either manual or 8-speed automatic transmissions.

The normal production version of the 6-Series will debut next year in both Coupe and Convertible forms (see our latest spy shots here). An M6 with a BMW's new twin-turbocharged V8 engine flirting with the 600-horsepower mark will follow in 2012.
